Coronation liturgy for Charles III, Saturday 15 June 2024

Society for Liturgical Study Following the success of last year’s workshop on the funeral liturgies for Queen Elizabeth II, we look forward to gathering at Westminster Abbey for a Study Day  on Saturday, 15 June in Westminster Abbey, to discuss the Coronation liturgy for Charles III.

The Study Day intends to offer a forum for discussion of current/ongoing research and will include reflections from the Revd Canon Mark Birch (precentor at Westminster Abbey) and the Revd Canon William Gulliford (author of a study guide on the Coronation rite), as well as the opportunity to explore the liturgical space of Westminster Abbey and some of the regalia used in the rite. To aid our discussions, we invite abstracts (of no more than 200 words) for presentations of 15 minutes, on any liturgical aspects of the Coronation rite, as well as on the role of “liturgies for royal occasions” in parish ministry. Abstracts should be sent to [email protected] by Friday, 3 May 2024. We would be particularly delighted to receive submissions from early-career researchers and those in the early stages of ministerial formation. Successful applicants will be notified by 6 May, and it is anticipated that general registration for the Study Day will also open at the beginning of May.
