Print on demand edition. The cover will differ from the original version but the contents are identical.
This book reviews the way that Christian habits of prayer have evolved from apostolic times to the modern era. It links Christian faith and culture in a rich and meaningful way. Manners and methods of prayer have changed in different eras because people have changed their attitudes, and sensibilities have changed, as well as language, social fabric and self-understanding.
Edited by Christopher Irvine, this is the first English edition which contains endnotes as well as the text.
The late Joseph Jungmann was recognized as one of the most influential church historians of the twentieth century. He was also a key scholarly figure in liturgical renewal, and is best remembered for his magisterial two-volume study The Mass of the Roman Rite.
